Mihi
Kia ora koutou,
This term we are going to be learning and introducing ourselves using our mihi. A mihi establishes links with others and is used to introduce ourselves by sharing our whakapapa (genealogy, ancestral ties) and other relevant information. To know one’s whakapapa is to know one’s identity.
A mihi includes the specific geographical features associated with the area that you identify with. The mountain and river may be connected to where your child was born, where they live or a mountain or river that has special significance to them.
Weka will be learning to say their mihi in class and we will also be creating a visual artwork of our school mihi. The learning of our mihi will be in small, achievable steps.
There may be parts of the mihi that are not relevant for you to fill in, that’s ok, you can just leave these blank. Can you please fill in the relevant parts and return to school by this Friday 26th July.
If you have any questions please come and see us.
Many thanks,
Sue and Latham
