Help to keep those 'Winter bugs' away

On Friday we had a visit from Fiona - the Public Health Nurse and her assistant Harriet, a Nursing Student. We really enjoyed them coming into Weka and talking to us about ways we can help to keep the Winter Bugs away from making us sick.

Fiona and Harriet showed us how easy it was to spread germs. Fiona sneezed and as she did threw some polystrene loose fill where all the germs may have landed as she sneezed. They sure landed a long way away and some landed on our feet and some on our bodies. We learnt how to cough or sneeze into our elbow in order to trap any germs.
'Trap it'
Next we learnt how to blow our nose correctly. We all got a tissue and had a practise.
We learnt to............

Trap it, Bin it and Wash it

Then we learnt to wash our hands correctly.  Before we washed our hands we checked out where germs were on our hands. Can you see where the bright light is?

Can you spot the germs?

We used the torch to check out our hands too after we had washed them. Most of our germs on your hands are around our fingernails. Make sure you wash and dry your hands correctly.

Thanks Harriet and Fiona for coming to Weka and sharing all those great things we can do to help keep ourselves well.
